Semantic Skill Matching for Recruiters

Semantic skill matching is the process of comparing a candidate's abilities to a job's requirements by meaning rather than by exact wording. Traditional applicant search relies on keywords, so a recruiter looking for "Kubernetes" can miss an engineer who wrote "K8s" or "container orchestration" on their profile. TalentRadar AI closes that gap by mapping related terms to the same underlying capability.

Why keyword search misses great candidates

People describe the same skill in many ways. A data professional may list "PyTorch", "deep learning" or "neural networks", and a designer may write "Figma", "UI design" or "product design". Boolean strings rarely capture every variation, which means qualified people are filtered out before a recruiter ever sees them. Semantic matching treats these terms as related, widening the pool without lowering quality.

Exact matches and mapped matches

TalentRadar AI labels every skill on a candidate card as either an exact match or a mapped match. An exact match means the candidate lists the same skill that the job description asks for. A mapped match means the candidate shows a closely related or equivalent skill, such as Golang for a Go role. Showing both lets recruiters judge how directly each person fits and explain their shortlist to hiring managers.

Writing a job description that matches well

The best results come from a focused job description. List the core hard skills such as programming languages, tools, certifications and domain knowledge, then add the soft skills that matter, like leadership, communication or stakeholder management. Leave out lengthy company history and benefits, which add noise and dilute the match score.

From match score to hiring decision

Each candidate receives a score from 0 to 100 that reflects skill coverage, seniority and recent relevant experience. Recruiters can set a minimum score, select the strongest profiles and export them as a PDF report. Because every result comes from public information, we recommend verifying details and contacting candidates respectfully before moving them forward in your pipeline.
